Shareef looks at the second episode of DontNod Entertainment's Life Is Strange. Colorful art, a progressive Jesus pic, a race fail at the bus stop, the complexities of friendship between women, and more!
#GamingLooksGood 06: Battlefield Hardline (Retail)
After covering the beta in ep 1, Shareef returns to the battlefield to discuss race and gender in the single player campaign. A dash of multiplayer at the end as usual. MEDKIT MUTHAFUCKA.
#GamingLooksGood 05: Evolve's Maggie
Evolve is a new first person shooter that involves a squad of four players hunting down a monster. Before release, I was cautiously optimistic about Maggie, one of the Black hunters in the game. All of the marketing for Maggie showed her with face paint and a scowl - which always runs the risk of being reduced to the most basic of "savage jungle" stereotypes, resulting in unintelligent one note characters.
Maggie is not that character. She is SO dope. Check out why in the video below!
#GamingLooksGood #3: The Legend of Zelda
I expand on a conversation held on the Spawn on Me podcast (listen here). Would games change if their protagonists were people of color? Check out the video below, where we focus on the characters of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker.

Battlefield Hardline's Diversity Tropes
I played a lot of the Battlefield Hardline beta on PC and PS4 this past weekend. The game appears to actually work (unlike Battlefield 4), and the game mechanics are fun and creative. However, I was bothered by the depiction of the "cops" and their personalities and phrases versus that of the "criminals". What image comes to your mind when you think of a "cop" and a criminal"? And where the hell are the women? Check the video below!
